Proceedings of the House and Committees  Mr. Speaker, if we have the opportunity to resume parliamentary work in committee, to legislate, what would my colleague like to look at? As my hon. colleague from Montarville said earlier, we are first and foremost legislators. For several weeks and even months now, all we have been talking about is COVID-19.

Proceedings of the House and Committees  Mr. Speaker, I thank my esteemed colleague. I love listening to him speak. He does such a great job. He obviously has some experience under his belt. I like the way he talked about an electronic vote. In his opinion, how could that have been implemented? There is certainly a lack of will from the government.

Proceedings of the House and Committees  Mr. Speaker, I know that my colleague's party is always quick to stand up for the most vulnerable, much like the Bloc Québécois stands up for Quebeckers. A 60-year-old paramedic in my riding has congenital heart disease and had to stop working because his job puts him in daily contact with the public, which could put his health at risk.

Proceedings of the House and Committees  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his speech. I was also concerned about the issue of day camps. I totally agree with my colleague on the fact that the government should invest more in the Canada summer jobs program. There is another solution: make the Canada emergency wage subsidy more flexible.

Canada Emergency Student Benefit Act  Mr. Speaker, I would just like to make a small clarification After the Deputy Prime Minister's speech, the member for Beloeil—Chambly asked a question. It was then that there was confirmation that our proposal would be implemented.

Canada Emergency Student Benefit Act  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for her question. I believe that our job as parliamentarians is to improve the various programs that are being implemented. We know that months of preparation did not go into this program before it was implemented. The benefit was implemented as an emergency measure.

Canada Emergency Student Benefit Act  Mr. Speaker, I am not sure that I understood the member's question and whether she is wondering if we can agree with the motion passed earlier in the House. I think it is up to all opposition parties to work with the government to improve the Canada emergency student benefit. It will be implemented rather quickly.

Canada Emergency Student Benefit Act  Mr. Speaker, I thank my hon. leader for sharing his time with me today. Before I begin, I want to say hello to the people of Avignon—La Mitis—Matane—Matapédia and thank them for the remarkable resilience they have shown during this crisis. The situation is relatively stable for the time being in the Lower St.

Health  Mr. Speaker, we support the $1-billion investment to combat the coronavirus, but the plan is not very reassuring in terms of security. Customs officers in airports are being left to fend for themselves. They are warning us that the two or three people added by Health Canada are not enough.

Health  Mr. Speaker, I would remind the House that the governor of New York declared a state of emergency because of coronavirus. Hundreds of people travel from New York state to Canada by train and bus every day. All of our front-line workers say security procedures at border crossings are totally ad hoc.

Health  Mr. Speaker, on Friday, travellers at the Montréal-Trudeau International Airport complained that passengers arriving from at-risk areas were not being tested. Some travellers even likened the airport to a sieve. We need to protect the public against the spread of this virus. The government must issue clear directives to ensure that no cases of the virus are allowed in.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, the rail crisis has had a huge impact on the economy in eastern Quebec. The Société du chemin de fer de la Gaspésie is still taking stock, but we already know that losses exceed half a million dollars. The Baie-des-Chaleurs chamber of commerce has sounded the alarm and is worried that it will take months for the economy to recover.

The Environment  Mr. Speaker, this is the era of climate change, not the era of “Drill, baby, drill”. The CEO of Suncor said that the time for major projects is over. The CEO of Teck Resources wrote that, before the company will invest, the provinces need to agree on their climate policies. It has gotten to the point where the oil companies are greener than the government.

Emergency Debate  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for her question. I think we need to start by determining whether a project would cause pollution. In this case, the project clearly would. That brings me to the energy transition, which is what we should be working towards. We need to stop subsidizing dirty energy and start subsidizing clean, green energy.

Emergency Debate  Mr. Speaker, I do not have kids yet, but I do not know whether I want to bring any into the world because I do not know where this world is heading. I understand that the member is worried about his children's future, but more subsidies for fossil fuels will not be good for our children.
